What Is LGSETA?

The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) is a South African government body responsible for developing skills in the local government sector. Its primary mandate is to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of municipalities, councils, and related public-service institutions through education, training, and development programmes.

The LGSETA internship programme is one of the most significant of these initiatives, targeting unemployed youth and recent graduates who have completed degrees or diplomas in fields relevant to local government operations. The programme is structured to provide meaningful work experience in public administration, finance, human resources, communications, policy development, and other essential areas of municipal governance.

Overview of the 2025/2026 Internship Programme

The LGSETA internship programme for the 2025/2026 cycle is a nationwide, 24-month structured internship designed to equip graduates with practical skills and exposure to the workings of local government. The programme provides a monthly stipend of R10,000, offering financial support while participants gain invaluable on-the-job experience.

Key Features of the Programme:

  • Duration: 24 months, full-time
  • Monthly Stipend: R10,000
